WHAT IS CONTRACT FARMING??
  • The farmer is contracted to plant the stevia on his land.
  • Harvest and deliver to the contractor, a quantum of produce, based upon anticipated yield and contracted acreage.
  • This could be at a pre agreed price.
  • Towards these ends, the contractor can supply the farmer with selected inputs.

PROCESS FLOW

  • The farmer gives his consent to NGO for plantation of Stevia in his field.
  • The NGO does the basic assessment of farmer, Check Soil & Water quality, confirm farmer’s credentials, get valuation of farmer’s land, get NEC certificate legal report from concerned authorities.
  • NGO will complete all Bank documents and submits the documents to the Bank for appraisal and sanction.
  • Simultaneously NGO submit the project to National Horticulture Board & National Medicinal Plants Board for getting Letter of Intent to avail the subsidy on behalf of farmers so that farmers may get subsidy in time.
  • NGO also submit application to certification agencies for purpose of Organic Certification of same farm.
  • The Bank will finance the genuine requirement of the farmers identified by the society and if Bank is satisfied with the credential, credit needs, progress and activities of the farmers it may at its sole discretion finance the farmers sponsored and recommended by society. The disbursement of loan will be effected to the credit of current a/c to be opened by NGO with the Bank.
  • The NGO will supply all the inputs required for cultivation of Stevia like Nursery, Organic pesticides/manures, technical know how to farmers.
  • The NGO provides proper forward and backward linkage to the farmers. After bank finance technical officers from NGO prepares field under their supervision , provide all the inputs to enrich the soil with organic nutrients required for the plant growth and to protect from soil born diseases like termite and fungal diseases .These inputs are prepared as per recommendations of ICAR and are certified by Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi. Raised beds are prepared 6 to 9 inches in height and 16-18 inches width and about 15 inches gap between two beds so proper utilization of irrigation water. The NGO provides Stevia nursery with certification of Stevioside contents between 14%-16%.Stevia nursery is again planted under technical officer’s supervision. After plantation technical staff keep on visiting farms twice in a month to monitor plant heath, growth and to diagnose and cure diseases, insects pest, if any .When the crop is ready for harvesting, cutting of crop is done under supervision so that quality of produce may not be effected. The Ngo is committed to provide these services until bank loan of farmer is not liquidated.
  • NGO is responsible for gap filling and any morality and responsible to maintain 28000 plants for three years. Also as plantation is provided by NGO and is monitored by NGO staff therefore NGO is liable to purchase the crop without any quality barriers.
